Musical Episode #019: Jazz Goes Soul

Jimmy Smith at the organ with (I believe) Thornel Schwartz on guitar

Hello World!

Very happy to announce that after a significant hiatus with only infrequent postings before that, Musical Episode is back and looking new! If this is your first time to the site I hope you enjoy it and would love to hear any feedback. The site is basically broken into two sections: the hour long podcasts posted every Friday at Noon, like this one here and more in-depth write ups of individual 45s, posted on Wednesdays, which are later collected into hour long podcasts called “Singles Mixer”. I’ve also launched an instagram account @musicalepisode, if you want to get more 45s in your scrolling screen time.

Today’s podcast is an hour of Jazz 45s all taking on the popular hits of the day. None of these versions vary wildly from the original and I’m guessing you’d be able to guess every track without looking at the title but they still have a a flavor all their own that I quite enjoy and hope you do to!

In addition to my general love of different versions and takes on a song it’s nice to hear some of these tracks handled by jazz players who may take a few more risks with the core melody of a song to give us something new to hear.

Very excited to have the site back and active, we’ll see you on Wednesday with a killer 45 and next Friday with another hour of music, until then, peace.
