Hey all, happy to be back with another hour long Musical Episode for you all. Today’s mix is an hour of funky 45s. Relatively loose in style and time period, the main organizing principle of today’s mix is there’s at least a double dash of funk in the mix. Some songs are definitely more on the soulful end of things, in particular Bobby Marchan’s great “Get Down With It” (which sounds strikingly like Hannibal’s Jerkin The Dog) and to a degree Sammy Davis Jr’s “I Like The Way You Dance” but they’re both records I really love and the bass line in particular on Sammy’s track is just so so so good.

Not surprisingly there’s a healthy dose of New Orleans rooted music here from Allen Toussaint and Dr. John, to the Meters, Betty Harris (with those incredible James Black drums) and the Sister and Brothers are from Louisiana and recorded in Nola. I’m not sure where Bobby Marchan was at that point in his career but he was also a New Orleans transplant.

That’s all for now, hope you enjoy!

Peace,
-George / Snack Attack
