Musical Episode #065 : Got Something Good, an hour of upbeat soul 45s

Jean Wells in a Calla ad from a 1967 issue of Billboard Magazine is featured in today’s mix of upbeat soul 45s.

Welcome back for another Musical Episode, still been a bit too busy to focus on the blog but covid finally caught up, fortunately I’m doing ok- thanks to the vaccines and a lack of high risk preconditions- but I’m stuck in the house for a bit and used the time to record and schedule a bunch of new episodes. Like everything the last two years, trying to find an upside to a not-so-good situation.

Today’s mix is partially drawn from a pile of records I’ve been setting aside and labelling that all fit a nice mid-tempo to upbeat vibe, partially imagining that I’d have some non dance floor driven gigs coming up as spring unfolds. The Frankie and The Spindles, Manhattans and the Unlimited Four records definitely are a vibe I’ve been enjoying lately, sorta sweet group soul but still a bit upbeat with some nice energy. In addition to some nice group tracks there are great sides with beautiful arrangements complimenting the outstanding singular voices of Irma Thomas, Jean Wells and Vicki Anderson.

I hope you enjoy this mix, it’s been nice to have on while I’m shuffling around in my house slippers and thinking of nicer weather and better health.

Peace,

-George / Snack Attack
